Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
The music is minor. I already have about six terabytes of music. Data recovery costs are on a corporate scale. At least a thousand British pounds for clean room fees. LaCie always reformats. Try reformatting yourself, then ship to LaCie. Maybe it is behaving like customs put it through a MRI scan. ...

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
Hi Ken only just spotted this... I had already tried the drive with 2 machines and with a different USB cable. I have have also dried usb first / power first, and numerous re-boots. The OS does not see the disks/array and asks for media to be inserted... LaCie provided instructions to re-format and ...

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
Following discussions with LaCie support and some experimentation it has been concluded that some internal component has failed. I am waiting on a RMA number. I must admit I was not hopeful as when I plugged in the new power supply there was that smell of burning from the drive! So it looks like som...

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
I have updated the ticket with LaCie and hopefully they will replace the external HD too....
Other than not letting me know they were out of power supplies and therefore there was going to be a delay - I must say LaCie support has been very good.
It's fingers crossed time again....

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
Hello EGTB guys, I wanted to do a reality check with myself. I'm only going to use the EGTBs to analyse chess games -- my own pathetic ones and GM games as I go through books. Maybe even doing some endgame study and finding out the obviously bad moves. I have the Total Nalimov Tablebases 1 and II t...

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
If this EGTB ever escapes customs, I would like eventually to get a copy of it on one of those external hard drives which use a USB port to connect to the computer. Just how much slower will the access times be, as compared to an internal hard drive with a SATA hookup? For backups etc USB is okay*,...

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
The drive is through customs. It took 3 weeks. There is a problem with the power supply. This will happen one way or another. In my experience even USB drives are fast enough and you can always use firewire or ESATA. It also is possible to transfer them to an internal drive once you have them. :oop...

SATA is certainly more common now.MarkS wrote:Sounds perfect to have a US source!
Shaun, When I think of internal hard drives I think of SATA and IDE. What is the differnce? Is one type of drive more popular or "preferred"?

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
For those in the US and with a Costo membership, I saw an External USB 1.5 TB hard drive for like $110 US dollars (well, maybe that was $119). I imagine an external would be nice since the "distributer" could just plug it into his USB port and drag the files over... no installing of an in...

Hi Mark, these are standard format TB's so yes, working here using the Fritz 11 GUI with Rybka 3 as well as the Shredder GUI. Any GUI / Engine combination that supports 6 Men TB's should be fine :). I now have all the TB's verified so will be looking at the best way to distribute... If someone was g...
