Vladivostok Ice Storm, November 2020

On November 18–20, 2020, an unusually severe ice storm occurred in Vladivostok, leaving thick glaze ice on all exposed surfaces. It caused extensive damage to trees and infrastructure, and left parts of city without power, water, and heating.

It started to rain around the evening of November 18-th (Wednesday). Surface air temperature was below 0 (°C), so the rain was quickly freezing. The condition of intermittent freezing rain and drizzle continued through Thursday, until the morning of 20-th (Friday). All this time the ice was building up on trees, wires, cars, and all other objects. By Friday morning the accumulated glaze ice transformed the entire city into an ice sculpture park.

Big thanks to my friends who took and shared these photos.
