Position for DTZ50

Post by ernest »

I have this endgame position

8/4k3/8/8/4Kp1p/5N1N/8/8 w - - 0 1

2 Knights vs. 2 Pawns, which is Mate in 60, as any look at the 6-man DTM EGTB will confirm.

But is there a "legal" mate (with the 50-move rule) ?
How can this be looked up, since I don't think a corresponding DTZ50 table is available?

DTZ50

If John Tamplin's DTZ50 EGTs were available at http://chess.jaet.org/endings/, one could look up the KNNKP position 8/4k3/8/8/5K1p/5N1N/8/8 b and see if this is likely to be won under a 50-move rule.
This is precisely the sort of position that illustrates the need for DTZ50 information if not DTR/DTZR information. Unfortunately, I don't believe any DTZ or DTZ50 EGTs are available yet for 6-man P-ful endgames. The only candidate source is the YK-MB partnership who intend to move to the DTZ metric

Hi Guy,
Unfortunately http://chess.jaet.org/endings/ does not work and with http://chess.jaet.org/cgi-bin/dtx the DTZ50 is not available, either for the KNNKP position 8/4k3/8/8/5K1p/5N1N/8/8 b or the KNNKP position 8/4k3/8/8/5p1K/5N1N/8/8 b

Any idea where the KNNKP DTZ50 would be available? Is it possible to ask John Tamplin?

A few hours ago, I asked John T if KNNKP DTZ50 could be brought back online. No answer as yet.
I don't know if the YK-code is flexible like MB's GTBGEN in being able to potentially handle the DTZ50 metric. The news tends to be of achievements rather than 'futures', which actually I prefer.
