Question about interpreting Syzygy EGTB output

Post by Kirill Kryukov »

Someone asked me by email:
Hello Kirill,
Could you please explain me how should I interoperate the analysis results of the Syzygy EGTB running on Houdini 4.
I am attaching a screenshot and would like to understand the meaning of the numbers within the parentheses.
Thank you,

I guess the number means distance to zeroing, but not sure about the minus sign. Does the minus sign mean the side to move loses?

My guess is that the sign is from the point of white. So white loses, black wins. Therefore -3 is listed on top: only 3 moves to a winning conversion.
