The Knock-Out Lounge (CCRL)

Post by Martin Thoresen »

The next tournament is ready. I have reinstalled every engine, checked every parameter and config file and did everything I could so that I won't have engines behaving weird (like Petir did in MT Tourny 3). Originally I was going to do a Swiss tournament again, but I decided that a Knock-out would be fun as well. So I gathered 32 engines and randomly added them so that the pairings would be random as well. Each engine gets to play two games with the black pieces and two games with the white pieces. The tournament starts off with 32 engines, then it's down to 16, 8, 4 before the final with 2 participants only.

The Knock-Out Lounge

Information
AMD Athlon X2, 2713 MHz
Hiarcs 10 GUI, Windows XP x64
128 MB hash (1 CPU)
256 MB hash (2 CPU)
3-4-5 piece Nalimov
Ponder and learning off
HS-Megabook.ctg limited to 12 moves
40 moves in 36 minutes repeating
4-Round Knockout Matches, at least 124 games in total

Pairings
Delfi 5.0
SmarThink 1.00

Going by raw elo, SmarThink should win this match

Zeus 1.27
Gosu 0.14

I am totally unfamiliar with both of these engines, will be exciting to see which one prevails

Tornado 1.0
Twisted Logic 0.065e35

I've been testing Tornado a bit lately, but honestly I think Twisted Logic will win here

Hermann 1.7
Movei 0.08.358

I tested some old version of Hermann, and it wasn't very strong, so I think Movei will win this

Gibbon 2.01b
Zap!Chess Paderborn 2CPU

A cruel pairing for Gibbon. Zap!Chess must win 4-0 here

Glaurung 1.2.1 x64 2CPU
LoopList 6.00

Glaurung seems to attract some form of Loop or List. It should win here though, unless it is a slow starter

Scorpio 1.8
Hamsters 0.0.6

Scorpio all the way. I haven't tested Hamsters before, but I haven't heard of it until now either so that should explain it

Gaia 3.5 x64
Booot 4.10.5

Gaia recently had a great tournament in MT Tournament 3, finishing 6/10, so that will be my bet for this game

Spike 1.2
Alfil 6.8

I will give my house to someone if Spike 1.2 loses this match

Trace 1.36
Kiwi 0.6d

I am unfamiliar with Kiwi, and I think it's about the same strength as Trace, so I can't really decide here

Eden 0.0.11
Colossus 2006f

Eden is weak, and I don't think it will grab any points in this match

Ruffian 2.1.0
Delphil 1.6c

Ruffian is fairly strong, and should beat Delphil. I haven't tried Delphil before though, maybe I'm up for a surprise

Monarch 1.7
Crafty 20.14 2CPU

I don't think Monarch stands a chance here against the 2CPU version of the newest Crafty

Petir 3.99d
Pharaon 3.5.1

Hopefully these two will now play at their full strength, giving some exciting chess. I bet on Pharaon though

Deep Frenzee 2.0 2CPU
Amateur 2.82

The 2CPU Frenzee isn't very strong, but I think it should win vs. the newcomer, Amateur

Deep Junior 10 2CPU
Fritz 9

Two strong engines clashing together, this could go either way but I think Junior will pull it off

So there you have it, all the pairings for the first cycle. I will post new posts in this thread with the scores after each round in the matches.
