Protector 1.4.0 rev 402 JA and 1.3.6

Post by NewbieChess »

When I run Protector 1.4.0 and 1.3.6 in a tournament in Chessbase Fritz 9, an error message pops up and says "Protector 1.4.0 x64 is not defined" or "Protector 1.3.6 x64" is not defined.

There is no problem when I select Create UCI Engine and even when I do an Engine Match and analysis. It just doesn't work in tournaments for me.

Suggestions?

I run Protector 1.3.6 32-bit in tournaments under the Fritz 11 GUI without any problems, so I'm not sure what the cause could be. Perhaps somebody else might be able to help you with this one.

Cheers,
Graham.

I'm using the JA build, if that makes a difference. Is yours also the the JA build or another one?

Actually, I'm using Protector 1.3.5, not 1.3.6 which hasn't been officially released in its final form.
And I'm not using the JA compile.

Oh ok. It looks like it has been tested though (it is included in the CCRL rating lists.)

Yes - hopefully one of those who tested it can reply.

I've had this problem with other engines if the name is too long. Try editing the name to something shorter.

Find the 1kb uci file that has been created and edit the engine name inside that file.

Hmm - in that case, you might need to ask in the CCC forum or contact Jim.

Open the database where the games are being played. If the names of the engines are not shown completely, you will get the message "engine is not defined. Possibly the engine against which Protector is playing is also a long name.

Both players show up. The second name is WildCat 8, but that isn't that long...

Try starting a completely new tournament with the shortened names. If that doesn't work, I can't think of anything else.

Instead of editing the name, delete it and re-create it, but put the shorter name in at the time of creation
