Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
Customs delays are almost always in the destination country.
Does Parcel Force keep tracking after leaving England??
I am tickled pink.
Don't forget to bill me for expenses.

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
My understanding is the tracking should be until signed for?

I know it's 'belt and braces' but either use a verified copy or run the fsum after the copy to verify the TB's post copy.

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
Marathon copying. First a backup for myself. Then the copies for those who sent me hard drives. Their drives don't have ESATA.
No hardship, because I can use a backup computer, but it will definitely take time.
Thank you. This really is a large step for the chess world.

Complete...
TBs to the states, I finally worked out my costs and after a few paypal woes everything is fine.
I actually asked for some of the costs in USD as I wanted to buy something in USD and it seemed more sensibe to avoid the conversion charges...
But it is not easy to pay from a UK paypal account in USD, A long story cut short:
Make USD primary (and I though this would be enough )
Remove all other balances
Remove all other funding sources from your paypal account - i.e. credit cards and bank funding
-Then it works (finally noticing you have the US dollars)...

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
Progress made. It fights me every step of the way.
I wish Shaun had not included the bad power supply. That caused an anxious moment.
Back up done and I am now formatting a drive to be mailed to a player in the current CC world championship.
Not much work, but very time consumming.

That was not a bad power supply, it was the replacement one. Not sure if it works with the new external HD LaCie provided once it was discoverd the drive had failed too?
I supose it is possible that testing the new power supply with the broken external HD broke the replacement power supply?

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
Shaun,
I have at least 6 LaCie power supplies. None fit the new drive.
I arbitralily chose the smaller of the two power supplies in the box I got from you.
It works. Copying in progress. It takes several days by USB.

The smaller one is the correct onekb2ct wrote:Shaun,

It took I think 12-14 hours to copy here, again via USB, (could not be bothered to crawl about to get to the eSata socket) - your USB interface does not seem optimal - is it running USB1?

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
USB ports vary in speed by at least 10X based on whether they are master or slave and there is no ways of telling except by experiment.
Master to master very slow. Slave to slave very slow.
Best is master to slave
This is not a problem with eSATA

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
What I think I will do is buy a 2 tb internal SATA drive and put it in my dataport.
The external drive with the EGTB's has eSATA so it should be fast to transfer the data to the internal drive.
Once the data is on an internal drive tranfering it to the external drive without eSATA should only take about 12 hours.

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
I made the mistake of buying a PCI card and eSATA bracket from Hong Kong.
The upgrading of my computer will take about 2 weeks longer because of shipping time.
Anyone wanting the EGTB's should send me an external hard drive with external SATA to save time.
People who sent me drives should have their EGTB's by Christmas.

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading
Anyone who wants the complete set of 6 man EGTB's can contact me at horndog187@aol.com
I can now fill a 1.5 rerabyte ESATA external drive quite quickly.
It has not been easy. The project has taken nine months.
