Sorry that I can't help. I deleted all Nalimov's 6-men tablebases recently because I need all the space for my own tablebases. I hope you will find someone for a snail mail HDD swap.

Shaun apparently got the reurn authorization number from LaCie and has mailed the power supply.

I have several external hard drives from people who want the EGTB's queued up ready to transfer them and mail.

Blank space will be filled with goodies

I have updated the ticket with LaCie to ask if there is any progress - they have not tried to deliver the replacement power supply yet :(

I have updated the ticket with LaCie and hopefully they will replace the external HD too....

Other than not letting me know they were out of power supplies and therefore there was going to be a delay - I must say LaCie support has been very good.

It's fingers crossed time again....

It recognizes the drive but can't see the data??

It should have 400 gigabytes of EGTB's and 100 gigabytes of music.

It seems the first thing to try is a data recovery program. If that fails, try and reformat the drive.

Following discussions with LaCie support and some experimentation it has been concluded that some internal component has failed. I am waiting on a RMA number.

I must admit I was not hopeful as when I plugged in the new power supply there was that smell of burning from the drive! So it looks like something failed in the drive that probably shorted the original power supply.

The saga continues....

I don't think it is behaving like it is completely fried. If it were, I don't think your computer would recognize it as LaCie.

The first thing I would try is unplugging it and plugging it in again. This usually resets the RAID array. It also makes a difference whether you plug in the power or the USB first.

Step two would be using a data recovery program like Easus Data Recovery Wizzard. It may be a partition problem.

Step three would be to try reformatting.

If the above don't work, there is nothing left but to send it back to LaCie.

Hi Ken only just spotted this...

I had already tried the drive with 2 machines and with a different USB cable. I have have also dried usb first / power first, and numerous re-boots. The OS does not see the disks/array and asks for media to be inserted...

LaCie provided instructions to re-format and that did not even get to the point of are you sure...

Are you happy to loose the music as data recovery is likely to be expensive - obviouslty TBs are not a problem as I have them all...

from LaCie
Please note that our repair process does not retain any data on the drive. Any data on a hard disk will be completely erased in the testing process and presently we do not provide data recovery services. Any component that is inoperable will be repaired as necessary.

The music is minor. I already have about six terabytes of music. Data recovery costs are on a corporate scale. At least a thousand British pounds for clean room fees.
LaCie always reformats. Try reformatting yourself, then ship to LaCie. Maybe it is behaving like customs put it through a MRI scan.

That is a lot of music
Music is the origin of the idea of trading EGTB's by snail mail.
I trade music with people all over the world mostly on optical media.

I never expected such a hassle.

Neither did I

Shaun

P.S. Still waiting on a ticket number although we have a nation wide postal strike so the lack of an RMA number is not holding us up.

I suspect the "RMA" is a returned merchandise authorization number.

I am happy to pay for express shipping to the United States. It and United Parcel are the only way to track the package.
