AnMOn & Tablebases

Post by Vegan »

I noticed when testing some chess engines, that AnMon guzzled memory compared to other engines being tested. It ended up using 560 MB of memory before it pushed the first pawn. The EGTB cache is set for 32 MB. Guess the EGTB does not use that with 6 pieces.

For some reason, with the latest updates to XP x64, a lof chess engines don't seem to work with Arena properly with larger numbers of tablebases.
The world of 5 pieces is one think, 6 is a whole new game.

With 6 man bases, the engine startup time is about 2 to 3 minutes. Hence I was unable to start an engine match in Arena, as Arena waits for only 20 s for a ready OK message and then restarts the engine. In Fritz GUI, the first engine will lose the first game on time, but after that it is OK.

This seems to be a problem with several engines. Obviously some changes are needed to allow time to index 2800 files.
