Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your support of the PAKserver, it has been a big success and i appreciates it very much.
The FTP server was a goal for 2007 and will continue for 2008, specializing in Endgame Tablebases and other chess items.

Your "Engine Chess" is a great website with a lot of useful information about computer chess. What I like most is the opening book and playchess engine games sections. You and Spaghetti Chess are the only source for people who want to collect playchess engine games.

I will solve the space and bandwidth problem by the end of the month.
This will allow more content. I have 2006 playchess games to post.
I also have some books from very successful players that are not posted.
Plus ongoing projects, including person interviews, more computer configurations,
and have be asked for an overclocking section.
Currently I am working on a Forum for the engine vs engine player.

Your Q6600 at 3.2 you mention on your site - is this on the ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard ?

The motherboard is an older board, it is an ASUS P5B Deluxe WiFi.

I also have the same board without WiFi in a Dual Core Intel.
Both boards have been flawless. I would do considerable research if purchasing a board now.
I would definitely look at ASUS and Gigabyte.

I have a suggestion for your overclocking section: It would be great for newbies if you could include details like type of cpu, motherboard, memory, cooling, power supply and all the overclocked bios settings. It would be even better if you could have details of several different setups.

Links to overclocking site seems a sensible compromise - it is impossible for a site to have everything but more details on your setup would be good....

I have downloaded both your Playchess database and the one from Spaghetti Chess - I assume there is a fair amount of overlap but unique games in both - just need to dedupe - I don't have the full Chessabase or ChessAssistant so if I remember correctly SCID will work...

Are there any other sources? I though there was but can't find one....

Hi,

I will put the specifications of the PAKman computer on the site, along with the BIOS setting.
This is an older Q6600 B3 CPU and an older ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard.

As far as other setups i will ask around playchess. Most players will not be so willing with their secrets.

Hi Again Shaun,

I am always searching the Internet for current computer games for the site.
The picking are very thin for playchess games. Many players do not want to be kibitzed.
The key word here is current. I have over 2.5 million playchess games, but to little web space.
Currently I have 730MB of web space which will increase to 2.5GB at the end of the month.
I intend to put the 2006 playchess games on the site next month.

Spaghetti Chess is the best for playchess games.
The Richard Stickles game site was a big lost. I understand his problem concerning support
from the players because of the PAKman FTP site. Very Very Very few uploads coming in.

Well I just fell off my soapbox.
Have a successfully day searching for games.

I must admit to running very conservative with vcore, probably why I can only get 3.2ghz out of my G0's... the q6600 was a lot more mony than I had ever spent on a processor before...

A few years ago I was overclocking a AMD1700+ and got silly speeds but pushed it a little too far and could not get anywhere close after that....

are you running the memory 1:1 and if so have you tried tighter timings?

I have 2 Q6600 G0 boxes here is the screenshot from one - now running 44412 I had not tightened the timings as I was checking CPU stability first...

As you can see I am playing safe with the vcore...

P.S. I love the EASYtune you can try the settings in windows and once happy update the BIOS...

PAKman: my name is Ty, and I have just joined this discussion board. Several posts have mentioned that you have a nalimov endgame tablebase generator on your ftp site, but I can't find it. Is it still there? If so, under what name?

Hi Ty,

The generator was for 2-5 man tablebases and has been removed.
It was reported to be corrupt, and I did not have a replacement.
If anyone wants to upload a tablebase generator, please make a folder under opening books.

With any good ftp client, It's possible to resume interrupted downloads, provided the server supports it. And I think the Pakman site does. But I found it difficult to get connected.

I recommend the FileZilla FTP client. You can resume downloads.
