Nalimov and Licensing

Post by jshriver »

Something came to mind yesterday and thought I'd see what the opinion of the group is. In order to use the Nalimov code in a non-commercial project you have to get permission from Mr. Nalimov first, which is ok he does offer it for free and has been very good to the community.

Though I've read that people really haven't been able to contact him the past couple years, so what do new aspiring engine authors or chess developers do? I was fortunate enough to ask him several years ago and was giving his blessing, but if I had to ask today (?)

Just a thought.

Fork existing engine, and substitute everything except the egtb code? :) Honestly I have no idea and this have been a problem for Nalimov EGTB usage for the last few years.
