Norm,

I was trying to upload some pgn to your site but the xfer kept error-ing out. Couldn't tell from the ftp codes exactly why, it just aborted. I was using CoreFTP. Maybe permissions (?), I used your chess login so maybe not. Time is just prior to this post.

Cheers,

Chuck

Hi Chuck,

After having the site up for 8 months with incoming folders available.

I removed the folders because I never received a single upload.

I guess I removed them out of frustration because I realized that the

takers in the world far out numbered those who share. I will correct this

problem today and return the upload incoming folders after coffee :D

Thanks You very much for using the site and attempting to share.

OK. Coffee must've been good. I've uploaded one file to Incoming Games folder - into a subfolder. It is the ICCF record of ICCF correspondence games that finished in 2005, most games have at least one ICCF player rated 2400+. 1292 games total. If it's good I'll post some others.

Cheers,

Chuck

Hi Chuck,

Your upload was just fine. Other than JKominek who uploaded many many Endgame Tablebases to a private folder. You are the only person to upload any games, books, etc.

Thank You Very Much.

Happy to share - these games will never help my chess much anyway. Since the 1st try is now successful, I'll upload some more games I have. You've already got all the EGTB's I have, so I can't help there. But I'll check out the rest.

Cheers,

Chuck

Hi Chuck,

The games will be a big help. The games and books are a big hit on the server. The Endgame Tablebases are always being downloaded.

The Tablebases are complete except for 42p. An incoming 42p folder was created this morning but will be hard to manage because people try to download from the incoming folder which is a problem.

Thank You Again.

Hi Everyone,

The server is practically full 24/7.
That is a wonderful reward for hours and hours of databasing and I thank all of you.

The Opening Books have had a tremendous amount of action recently.
If anyone world like to share/upload their opening book please furnish your name so credit can be given.

Game are always a popular download. The server has Playchess Engine Room games, Human Games from
many sources, Engine Testing games, Correspondence games, and an assortment of other things of interest.

Endgame Tablesbase are of course the hot item. I still have not completed the 42p tablesbase, but work on
them from time to time. If anyone would allow a direct download or upload it would be appreciated.

Like i said in an earlier post, the downloading is slow due to the limited bandwidth, but persistence pays off.

Hi Norm,

What do we still have as incomplete 42p's?

Glad to see you could put up a server while still pinching pennies - as well as finding the work rewarding.

Hi John,

Has been too long since we talked. I read your post about how busy you have been.

No i still need to complete the 42p. Have the 750GB hard drive installed but mostly empty.
I can't keep eMule running for any length of time, it is frustrating. I can handle 8000kn/s
coming in on the server. Its just the slow 512kn/s outgoing that hard to deal with.

Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. I knew you were busy and
did not want to ask.

I plan to keep the server up and running as long as the is good activity.
You once told me that managing a terabyte plus of data would be tough. IT IS !
But i am learning as time go by.

Nice to hear from you.

Hi Everyone
The PAKserver is back on line.
Don't know what happened, but it is up and running.
Thanks for the notice. It has run so flawlessly that i don't check it daily.
It is a remote server not located in my computer room and gets looked
at only when updating the content.

Hi Norm,

the server is maybe running, but a DNS record for pakman.myftp.org is wrong now because 192.168.1.102 is a local address, not external, so it's impossible to connect (it is possible only from the local network where the server is).

Code: Select all

ping pakman.myftp.org

Pinging pakman.myftp.org [192.168.1.102] with 32 bytes of data:

Code: Select all

DNS Query information for pakman.myftp.org
Trying "pakman.myftp.org"
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 48824
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 3, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;pakman.myftp.org. IN	A

;; ANSWER SECTION:
pakman.myftp.org.	60	IN	A	192.168.1.102
