terabyte drives for 2007

Post by jkominek »

Hi,

Though this doesn't have the capacity for "full Nalimov on a disk", http://tinyurl.com/ybwlf4, it is a step closer. Besides, 1 TB is a sexy number (even if it is base 10, not base 2).

Traditionally I've advised against buying IBM/Hitachi Deskstar drives. In 2000-2003 they had truly terrible reliability, earning them the nickname Deathstars - and IBM a class action lawsuit. (I got burned twice with failed drives.) Perhaps now that it is Hitachi running the factories the quality control is up to par.

I don't know if you can actually buy the TB drives yet (nothing on http://www.pricewatch.com/hard%5Fdrives/). Personally, I'm going to wait out Seagate's response.
