Re: NG-play new version 9.86
Heh, I'm still using 9.85 in the "Mega" tourney I'm running right now. I'll have to upgrade too!

Re: Mega 40/4
Well, we're 1900 games in, and so far the biggest surprise is that Stockfish 5 is only in 5th place, losing to Houdini 1.5, Strelka(!), Gull, and Komodo 5.1. Of course, the first round isn't finished yet so this could change. BTW, I would prefer to test the latest versions (Houdini 4, Komodo 7, etc....

Mega 40/4
As mentioned in another thread, I am currently running a 75-engine 40/4 round robin tourney, using official CCRL testing protocols. Each round consists of 2,775 games, so it's going to take a while... The primary motivation behind this is (theoretically) to reveal weaker engines with playing styles ...

Re: Testing condition questions
Thanks! For the questions you were able to answer, it appears I'm doing things correctly. So...Ray, how about those others?

Re: 8CPU Stockfish 240814 vs 8CPU Komodo 1288
Interesting! I would love to get my hands on some of these...I'm using Komodo 5.1 right now as that's the last "free" version available.

Testing condition questions
A few questions to ensure the massive 5550 game, 75 engine round robin I'm doing right now complies with "official" CCRL testing protocols. My apologies if these were already covered in the main thread; I didn't see them. (1) My Crafty bench was 39s, which works out to 3.5 minutes in a 40/...

Combine 40/40, 40/12 and 40/4 for single analysis?
Out of curiosity, has the CCRL ever tried combining all available game sets into a single analysis to assess a single ELO rating per engine? I'd be curious what that would look like.

Re: Biggest tourney you've ever run?
Well, I'm 650 games (12%) in, and so far there have been a few surprises. There is only one undefeated remaining (Gull 3), only two that have failed to win a game (ExCE r167 and Numpty DD), and the favorite, Stockfish 5, is in 15th place right now with 3 draws out of 17. The one advantage I see to a...

When were Stockfish 5 and Komodo 7 released? I'm just curious if these are newer versions.

Biggest tourney you've ever run?
Partly for fun and partly out of curiosity, I am currently running a MASSIVE 40/4 (actually 40/3 on my machine) round robin on my machine. Every one of the 75 engines I have installed has been entered, and each engine will play every other engine twice - once on white and once on black. When it's do...

Supported chess variants (besides FRC)?
Out of curiosity, is anyone aware of chess engines that support fairy pieces or 3D chess (think Star Trek)?

Trying to get Chess Titans UCI/XBoard
Just for fun, I am attempting to contact Oberon Media, the developers of "Chess Titans" for Windows Vista and 7. That program is ubiquitous and introduced many people to computer chess for the first time. The developers might be interested enough in the CCRL to help us enter it into the co...

Re: New engines?
There's certainly no pattern that I can see; it's not like Powder, that consistently crashes when an opponent uses en passant . Personally, I don't see any reason to try to "accommodate" an engine that is buggy like this. Hopefully the author is working on it... Final calculated ELOstat wa...

Re: New engines?
Hmm...perhaps. I used the default -900 centipawns setting in my quick 40/3 gauntlet, and ended up experiencing 13 crashes out of 100 games. The Tornado pattern (crashing on white, not crashing on black) did not continue, and I also saw at least one pawn-only endgame it was able to complete successfu...

Re: New engines?
Hi again! I thought I would publicly post our discussion. I tried the latest build of Conqueror 1.1 versus a lineup of 10 engines representing ELOs 1000-3400. It does not appear ready for CCRL testing as it is unstable - so far it has crashed 5 times out of 47 games. I'm still not sure exactly what ...

Ah! Now I understand. I thought any UCI engine could use any type of EGTB. Obviously, I was wrong. Thanks.

Re: "Detailed" testing settings?
I'm still learning about EGTBs, so forgive me if this is a silly question. Is there any practical use to downloading Namilov, Scorpio, etc. EGTBs when I already have a full set of Gaviotas that are accessible by all engines?

Re: New engines?
Sounds good. In the meantime, I'll keep looking for other unlisted engines. And I would be happy to conduct formal CCRL testing per the private message I sent you. I've actually installed over 100 engines so far, but only these 8 appeared to be missing from CCRL.

Re: New engines?
Hmm, it looks like Belka and Patriot both dropped down while I was at work today anyway. In 232 of 550 games (42%): 1. Stockfish 5 x64, 42.0/42 2. Frenzee 3.5.19 x64, 34.5/42 3. Belka 1.8.20, 33.5/42 4. Patriot 2006, 31.5/43 5. Kaissa 1.8a, 24.5/42 6. Gromit 3.0, 22.0/42 7. Mustang 4.97, 13.0/42 8. ...

Re: "Detailed" testing settings?
I think I listed Namilov under Book options by mistake - probably got my books and EGTBs mixed up :) The reason I don't have a Namilov or Scorpio path set is because I don't have those EGTBs. I only have the Gaviota 3-4-5s. I can certainly try to download/source the additional tables but I wasn't su...

Re: New engines?
Belka and Patriot are clones? Aww, what a disappointment. I'm not interested in stolen/cloned work either. While your suggestion wouldn't be my first pick, I'd prefer to do something that would be useful...so, sure! Just let me know what you'd like me to test, and what benchmarks you'd like me to us...
