Re: Hardware Question

Hi, first with computers the answer today may be wrong tomorrow ;) However today IMO... Q6600 is fantastic value right now great chip and overclocks well... I would avoid the Q9300 it is not as easy to overclock and has less hash, the Q9450 is more interesting but the current price of the Q6600 is p...

Re: Own Books Tournament with Learning

Hi Ray, watching with interest - just noticed ponder on too... How may rounds are you planning? Shaun I set it up for 100 rounds, 7,800 games... So far approx 1,100 games have been played. It will take 2-3 months if I let it get that far. Shredder is causing me a lot of pain, problems using it's ow...

Re: Backup tablebases

Given the data size - I would suggest an external HD? By default I never have only one copy of any important files (I normally get in a mess with too many backups ). So either 2 physical disks (in different machines or an external disk), or Disk + CD/DVD or 2 x CD/DVD. P.S. I agree a system whe...

Re: EGTB sharing - new plan

Here is the link to my new site: http://kirill-kryukov.com/chess/egtb/files.html Hi Kirill, There seems to be a good connection from your provider - I can get 2.5MB/Sec from work - although this was a one off test on a 200MB file just after 6pm UK hours... 1.2TB might get me looking for a new job.....

Re: Website

Hi Norm, are you running the memory 1:1 and if so have you tried tighter timings? I have 2 Q6600 G0 boxes here is the screenshot from one - now running 44412 I had not tightened the timings as I was checking CPU stability first... As you can see I am playing safe with the vcore... Shaun P.S. I love ...

Hi Shaun, I am linking overclocking articles and sites to the section as I find them. There are so many good sites I will create a reference list. Remember Overclockers: Voltage is your friend and Heat is you enemy. Norm http://www.enginechess.com I must admit to running very conservative with vcor...

Hi Norm, I have downloaded both your Playchess database and the one from Spaghetti Chess - I assume there is a fair amount of overlap but unique games in both - just need to dedupe - I don't have the full Chessabase or ChessAssistant so if I remember correctly SCID will work... Re: Website

Hi Norm, I have a suggestion for your overclocking section: It would be great for newbies if you could include details like type of cpu, motherboard, memory, cooling, power supply and all the overclocked bios settings. It would be even better if you could have details of several different setups. T...

Re: non consitent names of engines in ccrl

Hi Uri, We need to look at consistent naming between 40/4 and 40/40 where possible... Often at 40/4 we deliberately split out testing without say egbbs to show any difference... All games should be played with egbbs and TBs where these are supported - we might changing the namings so we show 'no egb...

Thanks Some more questions: 1)Danasah 2.85 from 40/40 is identical or not identical to DanaSah 2.85k from blitz? 2)Toga II 1.3.4 from 40/40 is identical to Toga II 1.3.4 from 40/4 that has only 14 games or maybe it is identical to Toga II 1.3x4 that was seriously tested in blitz? Re: 6 piece scorpio bases

Thank Daniel Shawul for sharing the source for his egbb.dll probe. You can now build egbb.dll for your OS (32/64 bit). Just request and I'll compile one for any Windows platform. Hi Denis, if you have the time a 64-bit compile of the egbb.dll and Scorpio 2 would be fantastic - we can then see what ...

Just incase anyone else hits this the problem was I had picked a DB of old games so no ELO info and Shredder needs ELO info for its book creation.
