Hi John,
What is the difference between your 5-1 generation and Martin Kreuzer's one (1 year ago)?

Can you compare (check) your results with his?

(for Guy Haworth?) Shortest legal mate

Hi, I want to use John Tamplin's DTZ50 EGTB in http://chess.jaet.org/endings , in order to obtain the shortest legal mate (of course with Black's best defense) for the following KNNKP position: 6k1/8/8/1N3p2/6K1/6N1/8/8 w 6k1/8/8/1N3p2/6K1/6N1/8/8 w The DTM EGTB shows that it is a mate in 55, ignori...

..."because of some reasons."
Why don't you tell us the whole story?
Doesn't sound very practical...
Why don't you put them on some USB key...?!

5-1 EGTB Status. What is needed to make them useable?

Can somebody give the actual status of the 5-1 EGTBs ? Is there a prospect that some day, they may be used in the same way as the other 6-man Nalimovs, in chess programs (that is, either during the search, or at least as a static database)? My understanding is the following: 1. the existing Nalimov ...

5x5?

Some years ago, I got quite interested in 5x5 chess (playable on "Zillions of games"), where each player has the 5 pieces of chess and 5 pawns.

Do you know if anything has been written about it?

Re: 5-piece Nalimov EGTB on USB memory key

I can't read German but I am doubious - USB keys are so much slower than disk - even the faster ones. I have a 4GB Corsair flash voyager here and it is so slow compared to disk (even for read) - now I realise why hybrids have not caught on yet. Shaun Hi Shawn, Well, the Corsair flash voyager certai...

5-piece Nalimov EGTB on USB memory key

Hi, I have seen a recent test of endgame search with the 5-piece Nalimov EGTB on 2 x 4 GB USB key (of course also possible on 1 x 8 GB key). Seems all the disk access inconveniences are gone!... Which also means bitbases (Shredder 10) are no longer useful. For those who read German, see http://www.c...

Re: "Position Analysis"?

I'm not sure what you mean about "results for position analysis". Sh'bases just indicate win/draw/loss and are assumed to be correct for that: they don't say whether a position is closer or further from a win. But they do filter out those moves that don't preserve current theoretical valu...

Re: Shredderbase contribution ...

Stefan M-K kindly provided me with an upgrade to SHREDDER10. The analysis window shows the counts of accesses to Shredderbases (SB) and to Endgame Tables (TB). I am assuming, rightly or wrongly, that SB/TB is the factor of speed-up as it shows that TB rather than SB accesses to the EGTs needed to b...

Re: DTZ50

If John Tamplin's DTZ50 EGTs were available at http://chess.jaet.org/endings/, one could look up the KNNKP position 8/4k3/8/8/5K1p/5N1N/8/8 b and see if this is likely to be won under a 50-move rule. This is precisely the sort of position that illustrates the need for DTZ50 information if not DTR/D...

Position for DTZ50

I have this endgame position 8/4k3/8/8/4Kp1p/5N1N/8/8 w - - 0 1 2 Knights vs. 2 Pawns, which is Mate in 60, as any look at the 6-man DTM EGTB will confirm. But is there a "legal" mate (with the 50-move rule) ? How can this be looked up, since I don't think a corresponding DTZ50 table is av...

Who can report on BitBases efficiency in Shredder 10?

Hi, Shredder 9 is has been out for quite some month now, but nowhere have I seen a report on the actual gain obtained, in endgames, with the use of BitBases added to Nalimov TableBases. I assume that the usual setting is to have both the 5-man BitBases (400 MB in memory) and the 5-man TableBases (7+...
