Re: Spike 1.2 with 6men bases

I have the same problem with the KBPKBP tablebases and ChessBase 9! The program stops after a few seconds if those tablebases are present. I don't even have Spike 1.2!
Can you check if the KPPPKP tablebases cause the same problem?

Re: New Bitbase format

I didn't use any program to generate those diagrams! This is a general feature of the CCRL Discussion Board. You can post a diagram using HTML-like tags with "diagram": [diagra m]FEN[/diagra m], where FEN must be a position in Forsyth notation (for the initial position FEN is rnbqkbnr/pppp...

Re: New Bitbase format

"Dual" - double solution in a chess study or a problem. A chess composition with a dual is worthless (it is "cooked" :) ). In the following position the Nalimov database gives two winning moves(1.Kb4 #64 and 1.Qb3 #66): 8/8/8/8/Q1P3k1/K3q3/8/8 But the second move leads to a cycle...

Re: New Bitbase format

The question in my mind is whether there is simplicity in search that outweighs the hassle of creating a derivative tablebase set. I don't know. As far as I know, Wilhelm is the only software which has the feature to search for unique moves in the Nalimov databases. For example, you can search for ...

Re: New Bitbase format

The idea to use the 4th bit pattern is very nice. As I am a study composer, I don't really care of the 50 move draw rule. So I'm one of those chess purist jkominek has talked about. But I don't need the exact depth of a win either. A simple win/draw/lose information and the fact that in a position t...

Re: Current status of 7-men tablebases?

Some 7-men tablebases with pawns have been generated more than a year ago. See the following link:

But there is a problem: no news since then...

Re: EGTB generation

Sorry Guy, I still think that the total size of the 6-man is only 1.2TB(5+1 included) and not 1.5TB. Your number was only a guess before the generation process of the tablebases ended. I didn't really understand your last sentence - maybe my English is to be blamed. So what would be the size of the ...

Re: EGTB generation

I would estimate the total size of the 7-man tablebases as much bigger: 240TB rather than 20-30TB as in the previous post. Also the correct size of the 5-man tablebases is 6-7GB (not 16.9GB). 4-man ~30MB 5-man ~6GB (4-man x 200) 6-man ~1.2TB (5-man x 200) so 7-man ~240TB (6-man x 200). Improving the...

Re: Abnormal Behavior (Tablebase 3.2)

The Tablebase 3.2 engine works fine for me under Chessbase9. In your first position it shows the draw after 1.c4.

Thanks for your answer! I am a study composer and these are maybe sad news for one of my new studies: there are some RNN/RB positions which must to be only draws...Like the following positions with white to move: 8/2N2k1K/6N1/5rb1/8/8/8/1R6 1R5K/3k4/6N1/1N4r1/8/8/3b4/8 But I am happy that somebody i...

OK, maybe not a classical bitbase helps in the generation process but some other pre-computed, small-sized database.

Just an idea: what if you use pre-computed bitbases (which are very small in size compared to tablebases) and then, during the game, compute the tablebases you need with the help of the them. Generating the tablebases with the help of the bitbases should be faster. The only question is: how much fas...

Sorry Black Bubble,
but I thought you want detailed endgame keys.
I don't really see the usefulness of general endgame keys. Mixing KPPKPP endgames with KRPKRP or KQPKRR in a single subkey doesn't make much sense to me.

The transfer button is greyed out for me too, so I can't transfer endgame subkeys to another database either. This is probably another bug in the program. You have to install the whole endgame key to your database. If you want to separate pawnless(33) and pawnful(33p) endgames, you have to use 'Defi...
