Probably you have to put at least all the 5-men TBs previously obtained from Hyatt in the same directory where you want to generate 6-men TBs. The 3-men and 4-men TBs should not be necessary. Try to do this and good luck!

Re: Current status of the statistics for 6 pc EGTB's
How do we stand as far as the correct statistics in a format similar to Eugenes .tbs files? Have the issues been resolved as far as what is causing the decrepencies. Be interested in hearing any feedback here in this forum. Thanks, Les Hi Les, I waited for the answers of someone else because I can ...

Re: Further maxdtm stats
Dear Guy and everybody interested, attached I post the maxdtm statistics and sample positions of the endgames you asked for. Before discussing them in detail let me briefly address some of your remarks: a) Do you have any knowledge of the FEG indexing scheme? b) Do you know how FEG compresses the f...

Re: Calculations for KRK ...
You're welcome re the ICGA .xls and the papers: re the papers, just skip the maths if you wish and go to the end results. For your KRK calculation, I would do it a different way - the total number of positions = 3,612 (for Kk positions) * 62 = 223,944 - the total number symmetric on a1-h8 (and a8-h...

Re: LOG-LOF etc
<cut> About the problem of the positions in wtm KBBBBK endgame I examined the first position of the Martin's list where bK is in the upper triangle. Ka1, Bc1, Bc6, Bd2, Be1, kd6 My program gives a win in 11 moves (not 13!) with Bc6-b4 or Bc6-d4. Can you check this result? Ciao Guido Hi Guy, sorry, ...

Re: LOG-LOF etc
Guido - your reasoning is correct and clear: I think we have both been distracted at times by thinking about all positions rather than the set of maxDTM positions. There are 1806 distinct positions of the Kings with Pawns, and 462 with no Pawns. The ratio is 3.91 rather than 4 because of the 'two K...

Re: Comparing Nalimov, FEG and GAF stats
Guido, You are correct in saying that the parity of the number of Pawns does not affect FEG's LOG/LOF ratio. Because there is only one side-to-move King, LOG/LOF is determined largely by how many place the stmK can be rotated/reflected to. With Pawns on the board, rotations are not allowed, so LOG/...

Re: Symmetry effects
Guido, For P-less positions, the board can be rotated through 90 degrees three times to give 4 equivalent positions. The White King must be in some quarter of the board, so these 4 positions are all physically different. It can also be reflected around some axis (e.g. a1-h8) to give (usually) four ...

Re: KQQRRK stats
Guido - I thought you were also eliminating unreachable positions in a more sophisticated way, where FEG does nothing like this. So - there could be two unreachable positions as found by GAF. I have ftp'd into the KK-hosted EGT51 website, so have got the latest stats. All 5-1 done, and 19 of 35 5-1...

Re: KBBBK max DTM position
Hi Guy, Guido, attached I post the max DTM positions for KBBBBK which I extracted from the databases using FEG -LL For wtm, the DTM seems to be 13 and there are more than 100 positions (FEG lists only the first 100 or so) For btm, the DTM seems to be 16 and there are 8 positions. In the Christmas b...

Re: Thanks ...
... guido, for pointing out my finger-slip. Must have copied a cell down and forgotten to change the content - dangerous practice :-( All looks good for the correctness of your GAF EGTs. But do you have an independent way of verifying your EGTs? Other maxDTM positions (at 'FEG' maxDTMs) will be int...

Re: FEG and GAF 5-1 stats
I've attached a zipped .xls spreadsheet with the FEG and GAF 5-1 stats. Some other data there too. The LOG/LOF ration of FEG's stats intrigues, as does the comparison of FEG and GAF results after less-obvious unreachable positions are removed from the GAF results. Some examples of maxDTM positions ...

Re: KBBBBK maxDTM results
For KBBBK maxDTM 1-0 positions, I am seeing these stats: (gafs) wtm 2 @ 16, and btm 44 @ 19 (EN) wtm 2 @ 16, and btm 45 @ 19 The difference could be the '2 Ks on a1-h8' issue, or your pursuit of less obviously unreachable positions. There are 'single checks' that are unreachable too, e.g. wBs on a1...

Re: Re the KBBBBK DTM stats
Guido, I guess you mean you have a version of your stats in 'Nalimov style format': Nalimov never produced any 5-1 DTM EGT stats. Note that KBBBK has (Nalimov provided) maxDTM =16 (wtm, 2 positions) and maxDTM = 19 (btm, 45 positions). So it is quite likely that Black can immediately capture into o...

Re: A digest of MK's 5-1 DTM stats to dat
For P-ful endgames, 'LOG/LOF' (column 5) = 2 precisely, corresponding to the a-h symmetry being the only symmetry. For P-less endgames, 'LOG/LOF' varies widely in the range [4, 8] which rather surprises me: I expected it to be consistently around ~7.6. I think one has to divide both the LOF and LOG...

Dear Guido, at present I have generated 38 of the 70 EGTB with 5-1 men, including kqqppk with two pawns. Since I had trouble uploading to Kirills ftp area, my uploads are somewhat behind. I had so far two endgames which caused trouble: kbbbpk and knnnpk. After taking two weeks for generating the po...

Re: Further computations
Hi Derek, thank you very much for your offer to help with 5-1 EGTB generation. Possible targets of your computation could be: (1) kqrnnk, kqbnnk, and then (using the endgames kqqnnk and kqnnnk which I already posted) also kqnnpk. (2) krbnnk, and then krnnpk (using kqrnnk from (1) and the endgames k...

Dear Kirill, dear Guido, the computation of the endgame kqqqpk is now finished, too. It took about 1 day. Hi Martin, this is very nice! I can probably help with step 2 (sharing). :-) Do you have approximate estimate how much space the 5-1 will take? With my indexing scheme the total space amounts at 616.7 Gb uncompressed. Probably something less (10-15 %) with Nalimov format. CPU time and RAM could be ...

Keep up the good wor...

A new version of my EGTB generator
I wanted to inform who could be interested that I put in my site (http://users.iol.it/rigel_g/) a new version of my generator gafs, where I eliminated some little errors and improved the program. Even if gafs is in executable format only for 32 or 64 bits Unix/Linux OS, I put also an object file (ga...
