Re: Share Your Tablebases
such a table has been done, when first 6 man tables were coming out. kirill and others here would remember the debate that ensued about the actual effectiveness of it, given that in order for it to actually represent percentages, you would ave to have more than 100%. further, what about games that h...

Re: EGTB Compression Goals
hate to disappoint, but the 'normal' computer still runs a 32-bit operating system. vista is still not purely 64-bit, though it is a choice to be made when upgrading from xp (32-bit versions only, since vista will not upgrade a 64-bit xp, and ESPECIALLY doesn't like x64 corporate) whether you wnt to...

Re: (for Guy Haworth?) Shortest legal mate
original question: How do you combine the results of the DTZ50 and DTM EGTBs to find that shortest legal mate? Note: I found this, but I am not sure it is correct... (curiously, it is also a mate in 55, not more) my answer at this point is correct, as you say, and useless, however it may be poignant...

Re: 5-piece Nalimov EGTB on USB memory key
and now back to topic. so what is the modern though then on ramdisc? the memory is faster than static (read: keydisc) memory, and the one downside is that you would have to copy the tables to the ramdisc (which is QUICK [under 2 minutes] from blu-ray) when you want to use them. in fact, the only spe...

Re: (for Guy Haworth?) Shortest legal mate
Do you have a reference to a FIDE decision (which postdates MB's findings on 7-manchess) on the applicability (or ad hoc suspension) of the 50-move rule? Maybe I missed something. it was made clear after the abovementioned mate was found that, due to the increasing number of mates outside the 50 mo...

Re: FEG <-> Nalimov stats conversion cracked
Martin - thank you for the upload. It's been indispensable. Would you be interested in devoting your computer to FEG for another year? For, say, 42 and 42p. It is a little-known fact that FEG can generate 7-man tablebases, except for the 6-1 variety. 4-2 is necessary prep for 5-2, and it would be re...

just a thought, and may be an impracticeable - is it possible to add links to these online files through emule, in much the same way as usenet does? this would have the dual effect of having a standing emule server as well as the web hosted files... perhaps this is a question someone may wish to tak...

Re: Undocumented feg feature
straight and mirrored lines are transpositions. in fact, you can also use an epd database of positions, in which case the + and - become forward and backwards in the database of positions when shifted. -p commandline switch is same for pgn database of endings. these switches WERE in fact documented....

an intersting test, so i took it a step further. with 4 man tbs, rybka 1.2 6 bit running on 3Gig athlon 64 using 768M of DDR-400 RAM found the solution to first in 6 secs using 64M RAM as a table cache. to second in 2 secs (!) both results #72 as yours. anyone want to try it with 3 man only? ...

Re: feg and 100 position limit
feg has never had a 100 position limit. it's positions are all unsigned short, thus it has always been 254 position limit (255 means >254;0 means not legal). the same applies to its mating depth, where 255 means >254 moves and 0 means mate.

Re: How to obtain EGTBs abiding by the 50-move rule?
unfortunately for the makers of chess engines, this entire thread is a moot point, since it has been the fide ruling for a few years now that it is up to the arbiter to decide whether an appealed position is a draw, thus meaning arbiter's discretion on the entire 50 move rule, meaning it is sometime...

Check "KAD" if you want to connect to KAD (I recommend KAD). If you have a "Low ID" than please uncheck KAD. KAD does only work with "High ID". If you do not know, whether you have a "Low ID" or a "High ID" than look it up in the window "Server...

Re: Where do I find the following 6 man egtb files
there are two parts to this reply: if you aren't shy about using your cpu to benefit the whoile tb community, the first part is about finding the generator to generate them yourself. if you prefer to download them, there are a number of sites and you should just skip to the bottom part. the top part...

Re: KBBKBN.TBS, is there an overflow error in it?
KBBKBN.TBS, is there an overflow error in it? The KBBKBN.TBS does show for Draws -1846231405 ("-" does mean minus here) positions. There must be an overflow error in the counter for Draws in the program. in fact, this is only a problem with the windows 64-bit console generator, as the lin...

kirill, it seems your description is not quite accurate for one single reason: if there is a single source and 100 cilents trying to download it, the single source will make as even a distribution as possible, that is to say, if the file has 20 chunks, each will be uploaded to 5 different clients as...

your expected behaviour is only true, kirill, if ''safe .met/.dat file writing'' is set ''always''. (options/extended, about 1/3rd down). setting this option to ''on shutdown'' will remove corrupted chunks on closing the program. both of these settings set the chunks in their correct place in the fi...
