Re: MINGW access from MSVS 2019
Sorry, Gábor, I'm afraid I can't help you much with MSVS. Last time I used it was more than 10 years ago, on a WinXP 32-bit box, and I never had it not find the MinGW compiler. From what I can recall MinGW compiler comes as a stock option in MSVC, you just need to set it up from within VS. Anyway, a...

Re: New Engine - Raven
The issue is up now. We can proceed with testing using the current version. The testers will just have to disable automatic win/loss adjudication which I brought to their attention already. Aside from the occasional spurious -999.99 eval I haven't observed any issues with Raven during the 320-games ...

Re: New Engine - Raven
Hi Steve
I ran some preliminary tests with your engine and uncovered a serious bug. I'll open an issue on Github shortly.
On the positive side, your engine should be at least 1400 Elo on our blitz list.

Thank you for the reminder, I forgot that v3.0 introduced SMP.
There is a test in progress now, may complete in time for next week's update.

Re: New engine: Goldfish
No hassle at all. Everybody has to start somewhere. If you don't already have an account on the CCC forums - http://talkchess.com/forum3/ - open one today. It's a terrific resource and there are a lot of engine programmers among the regulars. Many of them develop on Linux so if you run in any issues...

Re: New engine: Goldfish
Compiling did take me a while, mainly because I'd never used Cmake. I think a small project like yours could be served much better with a simple makefile rather than an arcane system of a myriad of files. You don't need Windows, a lot of people on Linux cross-compile. I'd be happy to test your execs...

Re: New engine: Goldfish
Hello Bendik Thank you for the information. We do all our testing "in-house" and do not accept games from third parties. Submitting your engine this way is fine but we usually require built Windows execs since none of the active testers runs Linux and none is a programmer. I was able to bu...

Re: Ceibo 0.4 - new version
There's also the question of the latest v0.4.1 release. Should it be merged with v0.4 on our lists as a mere bug fix, or does it have enough changes to necessitate testing it as a separate version? If you think the differences may be worth at least 20 Elo we should be able to corroborate it.

Re: Ceibo 0.4 - new version
Thank you for taking the time look into this, Fede. There seems to be a misconfiguration in your setup, or else a bug in VS 2015. Every one of the three builds you posted crashes with the same exception error, e.g. Faulting application name: Ceibo_0.4.1_noPGO.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5bd...

Re: Ceibo 0.4 - new version
Tested v0.4.1, still crashes. I doubt the problem is with this system, as I test hundreds of engines on it and get most to work, except the most buggy ones. Could it be the compiler's settings? If you use aggressive optimization settings like -O3, perhaps it would be worth it to try lowering it? Or ...

Basic endgame skills of sub-2000 engines
(this is an edited, condensed version of a thread that originally appeared on our internal forums last June) Mating a bare king with a queen is one of the first things a beginner learns, closely followed by mating with two rooks and then with a single rook. That is, a human beginner. But what about...

Re: Ceibo 0.4 - new version
I booted into Safe Mode, same results. Oddly, after updating the ESET virus scanner/firewall and another reboot Ceibo stopped crashing. Now it merely "disconnects" without making a single move, and the games are terminated as "abandoned". No worries, I have the Ceibo 40/40 gauntl...

Re: Ceibo 0.4 - new version
Yes. Same OS and updates installed on all three boxes. This one is my general-use desktop, so it has quite a few more processes running in the background than the other two. I tried shutting down all background processes and services one by one until I thought I was close to the bare minimum, with n...

Re: Ceibo 0.4 - new version
Just tried v0.3.65 at its default settings -- same crashes. When used from console rather than the GUI it crashes right after ucinewgame , unlike v0.4 which lets me as far as go depth 10 . https://i.postimg.cc/FFWz55wR/ceibo-crash.png Here's an excerpt from the XML accompanying the crash dump: <Prob...

Re: Syzygy 6-man Tablebase Updloading Issues/Question
Additionally, only Linux is supported ( source ): Ah ok, apparently you're trying to compile on Windows. For the moment this is not supported, but you can use an old version from before the 7-men changes. (So if you have a machine with 1TB of RAM and want to generate 7-piece tables, you need to inst...

Re: Syzygy 6-man Tablebase Updloading Issues/Question
In noobpwnftw's own words : Where do I find the modified code. I might give a try at making a full set of 7 man files. They are in the original Github, refactor branch. Building those require around 920GB RAM with "--disk" option and 1.2TB without, don't try that with swap on SSD or someth...
