Converting FairyGen to other Programming Languages
My computer doesn't seem to be able to run C anymore. I was feeding ChatGPT the C code to FairyGen and asking it to convert it to python. It gave me this and I thought I might as well post it on here to see if anyone could help. import re # Global variables MEN = 3 # Define the value of MEN here cc ...

Re: How hard would it be to implement Tetris pieces into chess endgame tablebases?
It seems like the L-piece is unable to force stalemate, unless it is allowed to partially move off the board. It should be allowed to capture pieces that occupy its squares, this makes more sense than restricting pieces from moving onto its squares. It's hard to define concrete rotation rules, but I...

Re: How hard would it be to implement Tetris pieces into chess endgame tablebases?
Chess Rules for Tetris Pieces: Occupies 4 squares simultaneously Cannot be captured, and other pieces cannot move to any of the 4 squares occupied Moves like the king (all 4 of the piece) The question is whether a Tetris piece would have to be treated as 4 pieces, or if it could be treated as one pi...

How hard would it be to implement Tetris pieces into chess endgame tablebases?
I use Tetris terminologies to understand certain endgame techniques. For example, the L-shaped Tetris piece tends to be a useful arrangement of squares for your pieces to control when surrounding the enemy king to prevent it from escaping to the center in an endgame. A queen alone is able to control...

Using the Concept of Colorboundness to Teach Trig
I believe that chess endgames are the future of mathematics. These videos detail how my endgame studies have led to the "invention" of trigonometry.

Mate with Bishop and Generalized Leaper
I feel like Bishop + any non-colorbound leaper or 2-way colorbound leaper (opposite bishop's color) should be able to force mate on a board that has mating corners, but I am observing through tablebase analysis that Bishop + 6,1 leaper is generally a draw on 8x8. I was thinking that Bishop + 6,1 lea...

Re: The wonderful end-games of Team-Mate Chess
Perhaps endgames on a torus could be more easily solved with mathematics, since recurring formations would always be symmetrically equivalent to each other regardless of their coordinates. I've found problems with analyzing symmetrical positions in normal chess, since there is the controversy of how...

Re: The wonderful end-games of Team-Mate Chess
It sounds fun. If it was a real time chess variant, I think Knight + Mammoth would be a win, but would be the hardest mate in the game. I never see the extremely colorbound pieces (knight or similar leaper with half its choices gone, or x,0 / x,x leaper/rider with x > 2) in any turn-based chess vari...

DTC controversy
I was wondering if there is a type of metric that finds the highest value for DTC into a resignable endgame, rather than DTC until the first conversion. It is controversial which endgames are resignable, so I don't expect there to be, but I was thinking that it would be the most useful metric, and m...

I managed to install Wilhelm, but I'm not sure how to use .emd files with it. When I go to EGTB manager, it says "missing" on all endgames, but when I try to assign, they still appear as "missing."

Longest Win for each Bishop Combination?
Instead of finding the absolute longest win of an endgame, does anyone know of a way to find the longest win for each combination of bishops? Even in endgames with only one bishop, there will often be two types of wins (if it is a normally drawn endgame): one where the defender's king is near a corn...

Mastery of the Longest Win in KRN vs. KR
I used the "Key Position" method to demonstrate this endgame, as well as a few other terminologies to describe positions. I am happy with this method, but it may not be convenient for endgames containing a high number of sub-variations. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cenw9k61TXs I am currently wo...

I found the page www.gadycosteff.com/eg/eg.html but the issues only go up to 152. Thanks! I didn't know that so many endgame studies existed; most of them are hard to find due to their primitive displays; that was one of the reasons I began posting my annotations of tablebases onto youtube: to make ...

Re: 7 8 or more pieces tablebase generator
I am back from the World Open where I obtained a GM norm, so I have a lot of free time right now. I've been studying some endgames with FinalGen (namely the drawing fortresses in BPP vs. RPP, and NP vs. BPP) and I wanted to ask how hard it would be to design a program for fairy endgames with one pie...

Re: Slowest won 4-men end-game?
It would be pretty simple to write a code that will mathematically determine the number of moves until "checkmate" in a 2-man simulation of a King vs. Ferz situation, or a King vs. Wazir situation, but for them to be of any use in solving endgames, there would need to be more complicated c...

How often does an endgame need to be winning in order to be considered a general win?
These endgames are also long wins
King + DNA vs. King + Knight
King + WD vs. King + Ferz
DNA = 2,0 or 2,1 or 2,2 leaper
WD = 1,0 or 2,0 leaper

Re: 4x4 chess
Perhaps an efficient way to figure the range of board sizes where a specific checkmate would be possible, would be to figure an algorithm based on rules where each player must move ALL their pieces on their turn. The reason is that with these rules, most mates with king + 2 pieces vs. king can be fo...

Re: 4x4 chess
It seems that all chess-related concepts are encrypted concepts of other aspects of the game. Every endgame solved also solves an infinite number of related problems. Instead of 4x4 endings, I used a similar method to generate endgames on a 32-square board with diagonals as edges instead of ranks/fi...

4x4 chess
I was studying a lot of 4x4 endgames on fairygen by multiplying all the chess piece movements by 2, (Kings become Alibabas, Knights become 2,4-leapers, Bishops become alfilriders etc.) and was wondering if anyone knew how to generate tablebases for larger chessboards. It would make sense to try to g...

Re: fairygen 1.2 released
There have been many changes made to the legality of certain moves in certain timing situations, so it is likely that they will change again. For example: it used to be legal for enemy pieces to be en route to the same square, where the first piece to arrive will get captured (unless second piece ge...

I have the piecedef file editted so that 5 of the piece slots will always generate the correct piece, so I can just change these specifically when needed.
