Re: Snail mail EGTB trading

I sure hope a plane is taking it over the ocean, or else a pirate will get it.

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading

Update please? I got a 1.5 TB hard drive, and it is very hungry for chess data. Am anxious to send it to a member here (luckily his name isn't IStealHardDrives), but that depends on the successful outcome of this thread. BTW, when you buy things like Flash Memory, you expect to pay a little bit of a...

Reliable storage medium?

Good Day Endgame people, I was just mulling around the crazy idea of putting all the Sixes on DVD's simply as a reliable backup. Yeah, I know... Crazy. But just thinking about it, it would take 267 or so single-sided and single-layer discs (red lasers). But let's just say it was done using good qual...

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading

Hello EGTB guys, I wanted to do a reality check with myself. I'm only going to use the EGTBs to analyse chess games -- my own pathetic ones and GM games as I go through books. Maybe even doing some endgame study and finding out the obviously bad moves. I have the Total Nalimov Tablebases 1 and II th...

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading

If this EGTB ever escapes customs, I would like eventually to get a copy of it on one of those external hard drives which use a USB port to connect to the computer. Just how much slower will the access times be, as compared to an internal hard drive with a SATA hookup?

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading

Sounds perfect to have a US source!

Shaun, When I think of internal hard drives I think of SATA and IDE. What is the differnce? Is one type of drive more popular or "preferred"?

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading

For those in the US and with a Costo membership, I saw an External USB 1.5 TB hard drive for like $110 US dollars (well, maybe that was $119). I imagine an external would be nice since the "distributer" could just plug it into his USB port and drag the files over... no installing of an int...

Re: Snail mail EGTB trading

Will these tablebases be able to be used with Chess Assistant or Chessbase? I purchased the Nalimov Gold tablebases from the guys that sell CA, and as you might expect the EGTB do indeed work with CA. But what if I got a copy of this 1.2 TB monster? Is this monster in a format that could be used wit...

Size of 7-man EGTB with pawns only? With at least one pawn?

I'm thinking of trying to get a collection of the 6-man tablebases, and from reading these forums I guess that will take between 1 and 1.5 TB. And it got me thinking about the 7-man tablebases... I'm not into engine-engine competitions, just playing through games and getting engine analysis - so I f...
